Vietnamese Shooter Coming Stateside

Emobi Games has announced 7554, a new shooter that will be among the first games produced in Vietnam to arrive in North America.

The unusual name for the new game comes from an important date in Vietnamese history. The 7th of May (5th month) in 1954 was the date the French army surrendered to the Vietnam People's Army, ending the first Indochinese War.

In the game, players take on the role of a soldier in the Vietnam People's Army. Years later, America would fight against that same army in the Vietnam War. 

“There has never been a video game of this size and scope from Vietnam and that fact alone gives us a lot of national pride," says Emobi Games director Tuan Huy in a press release. "It is our privilege and our challenge to create a first person shooter that gamers will enjoy playing. And though 7554 is based on historical events, it is not an attempt to recreate the past, but rather it is a vehicle meant for entertainment.”

7554 will utilize Nvidia's PhysX engine and Havok's Vision Engine 8. The game is nearing release on PC in Vietnam on December 16, with a release in North America planned for February of next year.

7554 brings up a number of interesting ideas for American gamers to consider. It's rare that we get to play a game told from the cultural perspective of a different world military; modem shooters predominantly depict a Western view of the action. 7554 represents a step past that, as an opportunity to play a shooter from the perspective of an army that would later be an enemy of the United States.
